The PhotoScreener

Advancing Early Detection Through Innovative Vision Screening

Founded with a single goal—to help protect children's vision—Medical Technology Innovations (MTI) developed and manufactured the PhotoScreener, a groundbreaking vision screening device designed to identify potential eye disorders in children who were too young, unable, or unwilling to participate in traditional eye examinations.

The PhotoScreener worked by taking a specialized photograph of a child's eyes from several feet away. Using advanced optics and microprocessor-based analysis, the device evaluated how light reflected from the eyes, allowing healthcare providers to quickly identify potential vision problems that might otherwise go undetected during early childhood.

FDA-cleared for preverbal and difficult-to-screen children, the PhotoScreener helped expand access to early vision screening and demonstrated the potential of technology to improve preventive healthcare. Following its successful commercialization, the rights to the device were acquired by a major international eyewear company.

The project reflects our longstanding interest in developing innovative technologies that improve quality of life, expand access to care, and deliver meaningful social impact.
